Join the cause on Sept. 6. Clothing optional.
If you're one of those drivers who doesn't notice cyclists, you're in for a big surprise on Sunday, September 6 when the WNBR (World Naked Bike Ride) arrives in Philadelphia.
The WNBR began in 2004 when riders in cities all over the planet rode naked together " to deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world to the masses."
Cyclists strip down to their birthday suits in order to emphasize their exposure to cars, the elements, and other hazards as well as promoting the idea of oil-free transportation alternative.
Costumes and body paint provide some coverage for the less body bold.
Indecent exposure? These cyclists deem indecent the vehicle emissions they are exposed to and car culture that shackles us to oil.
Those who protest naked cycling could learn from the Munich city fathers who objected to the nude scene in a 1969 production of the musical "Hair." "In Germany," they huffily informed Bertrand Castelli, producer of the Munich show, "we just don't go around with our clothes off." The next night, actors appeared on stage clothed in banners that bore the names of concentration camps. Nudity was restored for the next performance.
How will Philadelphia respond? Perhaps if challenged the cyclists could don Michael Vick jerseys?

This kind of bike ride is totaly lude and unnessary. I think this whole idea is just a corrupt and ignorant thing to do. Grow up!
They are obviously looking for sexual attention...slutty. We know how people react ( and some often out of control) especially at bars when people are around with skimpy stuff on. Many of these had on nothing nothing on the top OR bottom though. A few were seen gyrating the bare pubic areas like a dancers would and wiggling shoulders and other things. I am staying away from immoral types. Even if they juist sit and ride... What does baring it have to DO with the ENVIRONMENT. I am not helping with environmental stuff anymore if their Kind ARE predominantly there. We will see, I guess. I know I use FACTS to make change..not by my nude body or by a fancy outfit either. SILLY!
I saw the bike ride and I also think its unnecessary and ignorant thing to do. And it was crazy to have kids and babies with all the other naked people. Keep the babies at home. And it was absurd and rude and ignorant to be naked to get there point across. They could have had clothes on and made there point. It was disgusting to see all the naked people. And disgusting to see naked people in general! And also ignorant to be naked and have little kids see the nakedness. That's just wrong ! I just think that u can get ur point across in different way and not be naked. I think its just stupid to be naked. Grow up and find a different way to get ur point across .
This person is disgusted to see naked people, but not car emissions. is it a psychiatristic case?
Spell check, people, spell check!
I am also discusted, with this ride. Leave the little children out of it.
Good for the riders.
If you haven't used a bike for transportation over the road you haven't experienced drivers looking right through the biker as if they aren't even there, let alone the "These bikes shouldn't be on the road."attitude when they DO notice.
they did it again today. is it gonna be a yearly thing?
yes
You people are a bunch of prudes. Naked is natural and beautiful. get in shape fatties.
Nudity---was it necessary---YES. Most cyclist ,bikers and people just walking are ignored by motorist in a hurry. Must have been effective--got your attention didn't it. Next time you are driving put the Mc Donalds bag on the passengers seat cell phone in your pocket and pay attention who and what is beside you. And about nudity, only people ashamed of their own body would see this as ignorant or stupid. Grow up. Nudity IS beautiful........
Naked Bicycle Riding is FUN!!! If you object to the ride, it just means that you haven't given it a try yet !!!
