Lance Armstrong vs. Dave Wiens: The Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike saga continues

Lance Armstrong, Dave Wiens in the 2008 Leadville 100 mountain bike race

With the participation of Lance Armstrong and Floyd Landis in the past two years and the enduring skill of six-time winner Dave Wiens, the Leadville Trail 100 mountain bike race is receiving increasing media attention.

This year's event, scheduled Aug. 15, will likely get additional attention with Wiens and Armstrong returning for what will likely progress as another two-rider contest.

Both cyclists think with ideal conditions a sub six-hour finish is feasible — about 45 minutes faster than Wiens' course record.

Wiens discusses the race in an interview on VeloCenter, the internet television broadcast on VeloNews.com.

The Leadville 100 will also be “streamed” live via on www.leadvilletrail100.com

And below is a keenly edited eight-minute video of last year's race on the web site www.superhumanmag.com. The site has superb additional images from the 2008 event.

Here are last year's top 10 finishers:

1. Dave Wiens, 6:45:45; 2. Lance Armstrong, 6:47:41; 3. Manuel Prado, 7:20:52; 4. Ethan Passant,   7:27:54; 5. Jonathan Scholnick, 7:30:16; 6. Max Taam, 7:32:26; 7. Nate Whitman, 7:39:14; 8. Jim Lehman, 7:39:55; 9. Kevin Andrews, 7:44:18; 10. Kimo Seymour,  7:43:31.
