It's a one-of-a-kind cycling holiday gift, and it won't be cheap. But for an avid pro peloton fan, what could be better than traveling to the 2010 Tour de France and witnessing a stage of the Tour de France from a team car?
That's the opportunity being offered by the newly named Garmin-Transitions team via an eBay auction raising funds for The (London) Independent newspaper’s 2009 Christmas Appeal.
The bid is changing often. But when The National Cycling Examiner last checked, the prize, which also includes flights for two people from the London and an overnight stay in shared accommodations in France, plus a Garmin-Transitions goodie bag, has attracted 41 bids, with a current high bid of about $3,250.
The headline on the eBay auction reads: “Ride alongside Bradley Wiggins in the Tour de France." It needs revisiting, of course, since Wiggins recently left Garmin-Transitions to ride for Team Sky.
Nevertheless, that's the name of the auction and bidding closes Monday, Dec. 21.
The cycling prize one of dozens being offered by The Independent as part of its Christmas Appeal, which this year supports three charities.
