It was an unheralded return, but a comeback cycling should embrace.
Alison Dunlap, 40, is back racing. The former world mountain bike titlist and several-time national champion, finished third and second in comeback races last week in Seattle.
Dunlap was scheduled to compete in Las Vegas in the evening cyclo cross even during the Interbike trade show. But the Colorado cyclist wasn't feeling well.
In April, just prior to Dunlap's arrival on the Monterey Peninsula for the Sea Otter Classic, I spoke with Dunlap about her return her, her status in mountain bike and her memories of carrying the American flag across the line at the World Championships in Vail, Colo., a few days after the Sept. 11, 2001 tragedy.
Despite not competing, Dunlap was in Las Vegas supporting her Luna teammates.
