Mountain bike trails still seeing action with warmer weather
By now most of you cyclists are aware that winter is about to hit Minneapolis, even if it is only the middle of October. Snows are in the forcast as of late, and we've already seen snow and record low temperatures in the cities.
After the snow started to fall today, I switched out my standard road bike tire to a heavier studded one on my front wheel.
Another type of winter tire uses metal studs or knobs to help give you extra traction on icy roads.
In the picture to the right, you can see the worn away metal spines that help give the rider more traction when riding over icy surfaces. I've never ridden these metal studded tires, but once ice starts to form on the roads, and if you plan on doing a lot of commuting, a set of these tires would be a good investment.
Another simple idea to make commuting easier if you are thinking about staying in the saddle this winter.
