The difference in any business that deals with the public is great customer service. Natalie Wood knows that fact. In 37 years of working for the United Parcel Service, Wood has come to learn that greeting customers with a warm, friendly, smile and a happy, “Hello, may I help you!” sends a lot of packages on their way and sends business profits up for UPS.

Working out of the UPS Customer Service Center in Landover, Maryland, has given Wood the opportunity to serve customers across the metro area. The UPS site in Landover is massive but it is only one of the centers that has made UPS the largest package delivery service in the world with annual profits of 50 billion dollars. And UPS gives back to the community.

In the summer of 2010 UPS and its fast employees reached the milestone of giving a total of a billion dollars in total contributions to the United Way since UPS started its workplace contributions program in 1982. The week of August 2-6, 2010, is the time UPS will recognize its incredible drivers and efficient customer service employees.

The United Way is letting the nation know that it appreciates the great, and fast, drivers of UPS this week. “UPS is a driving force for change in our communities. The company and its employees continually raise the bar for United Way’s Global Corporate Leaders and are among our most valued partners.” Brian Gallagher, president and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way Worldwide said.

Gallagher pointed out that reaching a billion dollars in giving is an incredible achievement for UPS. “It not only speaks to generosity that is second to none, it’s indicative of their tireless and unwavering commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives throughout the world,” Gallagher said
UPS is the first American company to contribute a billion dollars to the United Way.

The UPS Foundation President, Ken Stemad, said, “Whenever there is a stop light or stop sign in America, there is likely a UPS driver passing by; they are part of the community, they see the needs, and they have been a key part of the $1 billion dollar story.”

Natalie Wood has been an employee of UPS for 37 years and UPS has been giving to the United Way for 28 years. The smile that Wood gives to customers today is just as bright and cheerful as the smile she gave 37 years ago. Customer service is not dead at UPS in Landover. Just ask for Natalie Wood. She can get your package sent across the nation…fast.

I think you have a mistake in your reoprting. UPS has REVENUE of up to $50 billion a year, not profits. Net income for FY 2010 was $2.15 billion.

That should be net imcome for FY 2009, not 2010. I am not a fortune teller.
