Five movies filmed in Alabama

It's no secret Sweet Home Alabama and Talladega Nights were filmed in Alabama, but there are many other Hollywood movies you may not realize were shot in our great state.

This is the first of two articles about Hollywood movies with scenes shot in Alabama.

Talladega Nights
Several scenes in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, starring Will Ferrell, were filmed at the Talladega Super Speedway in Talladega County. The comedy about a fictional NASCAR driver earned six awards and another four nominations. Visit the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum at the Speedway.

Failure to Launch
Many of the outdoor scenes in Failure to Launch were filmed in northeast Alabama. The 2006 film starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker features rock climbing scenes shot at Cherokee Rock Village near Leesburg and other scenes shot in Gadsden.

Big Fish
Tim Burton's 2003 Big Fish, based on a novel by Birmingham writer Daniel Wallace , was filmed mostly in Wetumpka. The Coosa River and historic downtown Wetumpka were featured prominently in the Oscar-nominated film with Ewan McGregor and Jessica Lange.

Sweet Home Alabama
Sweet Home Alabama
, starring Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey,  was partially shot in Eufaula. The 2002 comedy about a city girl returning to her down-home roots earned three awards and six additional nominations.

The Rosa Parks Story
Angela Bassett earned an Emmy for her performance as Rosa Parks in the made for television movie The Rosa Parks Story. Scenes from this film were shot in Wetumpka.

    You might also include Under Siege. It was filmed on board the U.S.S. Alabama.
