The body of Shaniya Davis has been found today, November 16. Shaniya disappeared from her home in Fayetteville, North Carolina on November 10, 2009 when her mother, Antoinette Nicole Davis, told authorities that she had left Shaniya Davis asleep on a sofa at 5:30 am.
An hour later, Shaniya was reported as having disappeared. The story was met with skepticism amongst news agencies from the beginning. Shaniya Davis lived in the Sleepy Hollow mobile home park. Residents in the park found it unlikely that someone would manage to come into the park, abduct Shaniya and disappear without someone hearing anything.
On November 11, Antoinette Nicole Davis’ boyfriend, Clarence Coe was arrested for the kidnapping of Shaniya Davis. The case seemed to have the break it needed, but there was no sign of Shaniya’s body. On November 13, 2009, Clarence Coe was released and charges against him were dropped.
Then, a November 10 Comfort Suites motel surveillance video showed Shaniya Davis being taken into a motel by 29 year old Mario McNeill. The video, however never showed Shaniya or McNeill leave the motel. Mario McNeill was arrested and charged with first degree kidnapping.
Antoinette Nicole Davis has now been arrested and charged with human trafficking, child abuse involving prostitution, and filing a false police report. According to reports and the warrant, Antoinette Davis is accused of giving her daughter over with the intent that she be held in sexual servitude.
Shaniya Davis’ body was found approximately seven miles from the Comfort Suites hotel where Mario McNeill was seen on surveillance tape with the girl. According to Mario McNeill’s lawyer, his client intends to plead not guilty to first degree kidnapping charges. According to reports, Antoinette Davis is currently pregnant.
It appears that the authorities got this one right, unlike the high-profile Steve McNair murder.
