As family, friends and the world gathered to honor Michael Jackson one person was noticeable left out. The speakers only mentioned Joe Jackson in passing while honoring Michael and his mother Katherine. Joe's name was also excluded from the elegant memorial program handed out to all the guests, and he was clearly not allowed inside the family group hug around the singer Usher.
The abusive, publicity seeking Joe Jackson did sit in the front row during the Memorial Service, but two of Michael's children sat between him and his wife the Katherine. Most of the performers came off the stage and were acknowledged by the family. All the brothers would get up, and Joe was quick to try and get into that spotlight.
Still, the participants recognized that he is not someone they want to be associated with, and they did their best to avoid him. Some were forced into an obligatory hug or handshake with Joe before they could get to Katherine's seat where they paid their genuine respects.
Michael specifically kept Joe out of his will, but the man who beat and abused him as a child was still sitting next to Michael's children in the media spotlight. One could almost hear Michael yelling from his casket to get Joe away from his kids.
Still, the family allows Joe to be part of the proceedings, and Joe does all he can to promote himself and his projects. He's been making money off his children much like Kate Gosselin but for many more years. Isn't it time somebody removed Joe from this picture?
May all our children find the love and nurturing they need and deserve. And may those who would exploit children find themselves without anyone to victimize.

Just looking Joe Jackson at makes me sick. Really, what a horrible person. And I agree, I think Joe was the root cause of Michael's problems. Good report L. Steven Sieden.
I understand that he was very absuive and exploited his children throughout the years..but would there be a Jackson Five without him. I do not in anyway excuse what he put Michael through and know without a doubt the profound negative affect it had on his life..hopefully, he(Joe) is repentent.
One last note, it is my hope and prayer that his beautiful children remain with the grandmother and the Jackson family. His wife sold the right long ago and the only reason she would seek custody is for the money...Michael knew what they would need in his absense..and it certainly is not this women.

I have been wondering when somebody was going to mention the elephant in the Staples Center. Joe Jackson is an embarrassment to his family, as he should be. I just pray that the executors and rest of the family see to it that he in no way benefits from any of this.
At the end of the day, Joe is still the father of Michael Jackson and all of his siblings. As a mother, it coukd've never happened here, because I RUN the show in regards to my child...not even her father can put his hands on her without my foot going way in...KATHRYN seems to be an awesome lady, but honey, you were the one that carried those children, and a lot of things you should have put your foot down or into Joe's butt. But keep in mind, the children that made JOE back off, went on to be awesome performers...JOE, GROW UP
The fact that Joe Jackson was promoting his production company/record label two days after his son's death speaks volumes about how he truly cared about his son. I agree that he may have brought the Jackson 5 to Motown, but Michael carried the Jackson 5 to stardom. Joe Jackson will forever be the worthless lowlife that was the major factor in his son's diminutive self-esteem. To hell with Joe Jackson.

My boys lost thier father at the age 10,8 and 2 ,three days before he turned 43 years old from cardiac arrest while keeping our 2 year old .It has been a hard time for my children thankfully we had a lot people who cared for us .It has been 5years we are now in thearpy .I pray you get the children what ever help they may need emotionally because they will keep things inside them way to long that needs attention now . I loved your statement about Kate, she is spending the money like crazy. I thought it was about the kids. I think Joe Jackson got what he deserves, it is sickening to look at him.
I believe the reason Michael was misunderstood was because he wanted to love all the children in the world so that they would never have to live with what he went through having Joe as a father. I'm so glad that people made it a point to say "the best grandmother... and aunts and uncles" while leaving out Joe when talking about the children. I do not think that Debbie should have rights but I believe Katherine will keep Joe away from the children because that is what Michael would've wanted.
Many celebrity children quickly accustom to fame and riches and discount their parents efforts. Look at Tatum O'neal! Joe jackson grew up in an era of "Spare the rod spoil the child". Blame it on the Bible they so addicted to. He sacrificed too, and worked hard and invested everything he had. If not for him the Jackson Five would have been working in the same steel mill. He pushed them into evolution.
Try these celebrities that got big and rich and kicked their parent to the curb: Jennifer Anniston. Demi Moore. Drew Barrymore. Angeline Jolie. Tatum O'Neal.
I See michael as one man who tried to create a big bandaid with his music,to put it on all the pain in the world. but the wounds of the people of this world where to grate. lets take this time and see what we as one voice, one people can do to help it stick
Joe Jackson was the catalyst that brought the Jackson 5 notability but ultimately it was Michael's God given talent that brought him where he is today and forever more. Michael must have learned to love his children from his mom and therefore I believe that Katherine should have the children. Hopefully she will be able to keep Joe from having any contact with them. I fear that Michael's daughter will have so much exposure/lime light that Joe may try to capitolize on her. Pray for protection for these children. Let us all try to be great humanitarians and samaritans. We may not all have the finances to do what Michael was able to do but we can give of ourselves. So many songs sung with messages that Michael wrote to each and everyone of us to set our differences aside and band together for the greater good. If we all just lift our voices in unity much can be achieved. Joe I pray for your soul. Look around and see the errors of your ways. You pushed your son to destruction.
Joe was a horrid father to Michael. Us fans might not know what went on in the family, but if he was left out of the will, and he was not acknowledged in the service, you can tell that he was not liked. He got what was coming to him. Personally, i feel that he was a large part in the death of his son. He should be ashamed. It is due to the father that the children all had their remarkable talents. Talent is taught and nurtured not a miracle. Due to his discipline he created the talent of all the Jacksons, whether you like him or not it is thanks to him we had the talented Jacksons. People are often critical of parents teaching their children yet they love the results and so do the children when they are older, they were not starved or tortured. Joe Jackson must have put incredible work and effort to help his children and am sure he loved them all. I think he has been completely underated because of the way he looks, what he did was brilliant.
I think leaving Joe out of everything is GREAT. He abused the kids so he could make a dollar off them, when he couldn't make a go at music which he sucked at. Yes you can teach a child but don't beat them when they make a mistake such as getting out of step to a song. Also Joe seems to have slept around and has a daughter by another women. I know Katherine was hurt by this but her being a kind lady and keeping her kids together I am sure she went through alot too. Bless her. I would have kicked Joe to the curb years ago
You know it's doesn't matter what we as the people think about Joe.He's still the father of That family and he deserve respect from the media and the public. There's not one person who is pointing the finger @ Joe that is sin free.Remember people we all will be judged. Do we really know the truth,or just being judgemental because we can. I think Joe had the right intention in mind but maybe the wrong purpose at times.Give the man credit for creating some of the most talented children in the world's history of music.Some of us would'nt dream of putting forth that kind of effort with our children.
I understand the argument that Joe was (is) the father to the Jackson family, and that it was largely through his efforts that they became famous. I also understand the whole "spare the rod" style of parenting; I'm even an advocate for the use of corporal punishment - when NEEDED - in the raising of children. However, he was needlessly cruel to his children, AND he tried to pitch a new business deal at a time when he should have been paying tribute to his very talented son! You can debate the former all you want, but there is NO excuse for the latter. Joe's has shown us his true colors, and they are one color - green, the color of money.
We all know Micheal loved his Mother with all his heart and soul. I believe not only was his distaste for Joe because of the harsh way he raised the kids but mostly because of the way he treated Katherine while he was touring with the boys. He Cheated on her and even has a love child with Cheryl Terrell her name is Joh'Vonnie Jackson. Katherine obtained a petition for divorce on March 9, 1973, and filed it with the Los Angeles County clerk. Micheal such an innocent loving soul I am sure was crushed by what he witnessed and was probably told not to tell. A Child seeing the person they love most in the world being betrayed by someone he was scared of, the person that was suppose to love his mother and only her. Another big reason to cut Joe out of his life? Katherine should be the one raise Micheal's Children. She will love them and be the best person to continue teaching his children what a True GIFT Micheal was. The Aunts and Uncles will lend a helping hand.

but- you cant teach rhythm, the beat, natural singing ability.etc.. Michael was still young when he got away from his fathers evil ways, so he really did not teach Michael all he knows. Look at "Triller", Joe had nothing to do with that.
I know that Michael is in heaven, and when he first saw the Lord, he danced and sang for him, just like he did for us. He is happy now, and all the people who supposedly were his friends wont mess with him any more. Where were all these so-called friends at the end of his life, when he was 112 pounds, bald and needle riddened. I do love you Michael and RIP

Nothing in the lives of a poor young black family with nine children in a two bedroom house in Gary Indiana could prepare them mentally for the kind of success the Jackson family ultimately achieved. Our "from the media" view of the Jackson family may have us believing all sorts of things that may or may not be true. It is obvious that there is a problem between Joe Jackson and the rest of the family, you can see the distance. My hope is that in the wake of Michael Jackson's death that the family can find a way to begin to heal and come together. Life is short, and though Joe may have done some things we wish he hadn't he is their father and he was the one who got them to a position in the entertainment business for them to launch their careers and live a very different life from the one they'd probably be living if he had not kept them disciplined. I don't think anyone should beat the crap out of their children but I'd like to see you raise 6 boys and 3 girls and wonder how?
Kathryn should have legally divorced Joe a long time ago, it is out for the money, at the BET awards on the red carpet I think it was Joe was promoting his new record company, what the heck, his son just died !! Jermaine and Joe want Michael burried at Neverland could it be they want to turn it into a Graceland for money, while the rest of the family done want Michael's body to be buried there because Michael learned to hate the place that he onced loved maybe that was why he let the mortgage go on it. I noticed when everyone was on stage Joe was not getting any attention, and he attempted to get attention when singers/people speaking would come down and get hugs from the Jackson brothers and Joe wanted to be included and it looked like to me everyone was trying to avoid Poor old Joe, it came right out of the horse's mouth I call it, Michael said in interviews what his father did, then when Michael died Joe wanted to set the record straight on the abuse...Florida speaking here...

I am absolutely livid that anyone would attack Joe Jackson less than a week after his son's funeral! I think that we're missing a lot when it comes to the relationship between Joe and Michael Jackson. I think that Joe wanted his children to be good and what they were doing. Back then, blacks had to be at the top of their game at whatever we attempted to do. None of the Jackson children suffered as a result of being raised by Joe Jackson. The Jacksons are the most success entertainment families around. Apparently, they did not suffer from having Joe Jackson as a father. There is a difference in being abused as to being disciplined. I think that someone needs to go back a look at the interviews where Michael Jackson said that he learned how to be disciplined and many other things from his father. I think that we should give credit where credit is due. Joe Jackson deserves the credit for Michael Jackson being a superstar and the success of the Jackson family.

I must say that while I would normally question this article due to its tone, I can't help but agree. I've felt that Joe Jackson is vile for sometime and his behavior since Michael's death hasn't done anything to change that. He's just a disgusting man who had no empathy for his own children, an egomaniac who seeks his own bloated self-aggrandizing satisfaction by exploiting his offspring for everything he can get out of them. He's loving the temporary spotlight that Michael's death has provided him. (I think LaToya took after her dad in this sense.) Thank goodness the three kids are being kept from him. Now, he wants to try to get in on Omar Bhatti, when Bhatti has publicly claimed that he is NOT MJ's son. He'll do anything to make a buck and keep his parasitic leech, lizard-like face in ours.

Without Joe, Michael woudn't have been on top. He kept on pushing him. But I don't get how Joe never gave him atleast small awards from him himself.
Michael claimed that Joe never hugged him. But hugged an *exclusive* family member (i forgot her name) and was more close to him than he was to Michael. Michael said he never really understood that. I don't either.
Michael also claimed that Joe always asked him for money. And once he stood up for himself and said no.
And Joe got mad. Michael really helped his familiy to survive because he had the talent and the money,Joe never thanked him.

Being abusive to your children is just plain wrong. The elder Mr. Jackson beat EVERY one of the Jackson brothers just because they messed up a line or went out of step. WHATS UP WITH THAT. Name just one singer who has never messed up rehearsal. I simpathize with the late Mr. Jackson.
Im back responding to JLM's feedback. I myself know that the Jackson family is the most successful musical family in America(there could be other families in different countries). I know that Joe started it. But why does that give him the right to beat his children? Whoever heard of, "I'll beat my own children to death if it means we will be super famous."
