A former San Antonio Spur and NBA All-Star faces sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking charges, surrounding a series of incidents involving a 14-year-old girl, authorities in Texas announced Friday, Feb. 26.
An arrest warrant has been issued for former Spurs player Alvin Robertson, alleging he was among seven people who kidnapped a 14-year-old girl and forced her into prostitution and dancing at a strip club. The warrant also accuses Robertson of having sex with the girl.
Police were looking for Robertson Friday. Bexar County Sheriff's Deputy Ino Badillo said Robertson lives in San Antonio but is believed to be out of town.
According to the warrant, police began investigating Robertson last April after a 14-year-old girl waved-down a police car and told officers she had been abducted. The juvenile said she had been driven around the city and forced to have sex with a series of men. The girl also alleges she was forced to dance at a Corpus Christi strip club.
Police say the girl was abducted by 49-year-old Leslie Campell. She escaped when he was using the restroom in his home. Campbell pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child last month.
Robertson was included in the investigation after the girl described Robertson and his girlfriend as part of the group that assaulted her. Roberson's girlfriend, Raquel McIntosh, was arrested early Friday on charges of sex trafficking and for forcing a child to have sex.
Robertson, 47, was sentenced to three years in prison in 2002 for violating probation involving a rape charge. The girl, his former girlfriend, later dropped the case against him. In 1997, Robertson had several scrapes with the law including a string of domestic violence charges, for which he pleaded no-contest.
Robertson played 10 years in the NBA including his first six (1984 to 1989) with the Spurs. The four-time NBA All-Star also had stints with the Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors.
