Police in California report State Sen. Roy Ashburn (R-Calif.) was arrested early Wednesday morning for drunk driving. Cops say Ashburn was pulled over after leaving the popular Sacramento gay nightclub, Faces.
A police report also indicates Ashburn, a fierce competitor of gay rights who stands staunchly against gay marriage, was stopped with an unidentified man in the passenger seat of his state-issued car. While some of the details of the arrest are not known, Ashburn did release a statement after a host of reporters gained access Wednesday's arrest report.
"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment," Ashburn said. "I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me - my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."
Sources say Wednesday was not the first time Ashburn has been at the nightclub.
Ashburn graduated from California State University-Bakersfield in 1983. He is a divorced father of four daughters. Ashburn hosted a political radio talk show on KERN 1180 AM, which aired Saturdays.

Good freiends with Rush and Glen beck.
Pretty much all of the politicians, preachers, etc who are so very homophobic in public..are just trying to create a facade to hide who THEY really are.As soon as I hear someone spouting off as anti-gay, I figure they are probably gay themselves and just trying to divert attention. Very sad.
Was he arrested for following too closely?
Was Ted Haggard the passenger...lol
FYI his show aired on KERN AM 1180 but he quit his radio gig a couple of months ago because the rumor was about to be confirmed he is actually a homosexual and a total hypocrite. He is not rabidly anti gay, he only reflected the opinions of the hicks he supposedly represents. This arrogant jerk was sat up by his own people, they had a tail on him and were waiting for him to leave so they could ruin his future chances of running for office. Thats part of the story you will never hear or read about in the news...
Come out already, Senator Ashburn - What a great way to start your campaign for gay rights!
"... he only reflected the opinions of the hicks he supposedly represents..." of course this opinion also reflects many of the Democrats especially in the Ethnic communities and even President Obama...
"Although Barack Obama has said that he supports civil unions, he is against gay marriage. In an interview with the Chicago Daily Tribune, Obama said, "I'm a Christian. And so, although I try not to have my religious beliefs dominate or determine my political views on this issue, I do believe that tradition, and my religious beliefs say that marriage is something sanctified between a man and a woman."

Typical Republican hypocrisy...when a politician goes out of his way to pass anti-gay legislation...and he is a Republican...well...it's just a matter of time before is revealed TO BE GAY!
BTW...was the passenger's mouth full?
I think the reason this sort of thing seems to happen more often in a place like California is that it's such a corrupted place, morally, and it's very hard for people like this to live up to the morality of the minority they represent. It's really sad. But Senator Ashburn should be kicked out of office and replaced with someone more decent. But that doesn't mean a Democrat. Just look at the adultery in the lives of the mayors of L.A. and San Fran.
KARMA!(knocking on his 'closet' door)
SC, you're wrong: "I think the reason this sort of thing seems to happen more often in a place like California is that it's such a corrupted place, morally". Being gay has nothing to do with morals. One is either gay or they are not. Had he lived in the rural Midwest, he still would be gay. His environment had nothing to do with his actions. You religious zealots are so ignorant about the real world. Amazing.
HOLLERRRRRRR
It isn't antigay or religious zealotry to say that this guy is immoral or corrupt... This guy is antigay whilst he is actually gay, also he seems to be a bit irresponsible and promiscuous for being a senator.
being gay does not mean that you "vote" for gay issues. maybe he is doing wha this constituents want of him. wow, a politician that actually listens to his voters rather than his own head.
"I think the reason this sort of thing seems to happen more often in a place like California is that it's such a corrupted place, morally, and it's very hard for people like this to live up to the morality of the minority they represent."
Couldn't let that one go! I can't believe some dips**t from South Carolina, of all places, is playing "holier than thou". Does Governor Mark Sanford ring a bell, you retard?? Nothing like an adulterous trip to Argentina to prove how much more pristine and morally superior your politicians in SC are, right?
Jesus... you're a living, breathing example of people in glass houses (and your probably too stupid to understand the metaphor...)
Here we go again. Its like I always say, those who protest the loudest are totally gay.
Note to journalist, pay attention, find a loud anti-gay politician, and follow him. He's bound to wind up being fabulous somewhere.
Here in Texas, we have an Attorney General who talks about "children" waaaayyy too much. I wish someone would dig through his trash and make sure I'm wrong about this, cause its creepy.
