The San Francisco Museum and Historical Society is hosting a cruise exploring the construction of the Bay Bridge's eastern span currently underway. Led by Donald MacDonald, the world-renowned architect responsible for the design of the 6.3 billion dollar project, the cruise is a rare opportunity to see this massive project up close and from a truly unique perspective.
During this educational tour, MacDonald will discuss the design concept and the construction process.
MacDonald worked with the acclaimed New York bridge engineering firm of Weidlinger Associates to create the self-anchoring suspension bridge with its elegant soaring single tower that was ultimately chosen to replace the seismically unsafe eastern span. This is the first bridge of its kind to be built with a single tower and, when completed in 2013, will become the world's largest self-anchored suspension bridge.
The tour is $75 per person. To reserve tickets please visit the SFMHS website: www.sfhistory.org or call (415) 537-1105 ext. 100. Limited tickets are available, so call them- why would you want to miss this?
