A plot to steal the laughter from the people of Reno by an evil witch and an unemployed standup comic was uncovered today and reported by Utility Player's producer, Jessica Levity. Miss Levity and the Utility Players will uncover the details of the plot in a performance of their new opus, "IMPROV-The Musical" scheduled to debut Thursday, July 29th at the Siena Hotel Ballroom at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10 in advance at Salon 7, Melting Pot World Emporium, and Prism Magic, $15 at the door.
IMPROV-The Musical is an original work by composer, Ariel Lea and book by the members of the Utility Players, a young group of talented players who write, stage, perform and market their own works in the best tradition of American theater.
Set in modern day Reno, this local fairy tale introduces Jes, an aspiring comedian in her attempt to scale the heights of a comedic career. Along the way she meets a hip Fairy Godmother, played by Miss Ginger Devine, an evil witch also played by Miss Devine, a down-and-out standup comic, played by Joe Garton, a teacher at Hug High, and a troupe of standup comics.
Will the evil witch and her standup villain succeed or will the Utility Players be able to stop the plot in some epic battle? Be sure to cheer on the heroes and hiss the villains at this debut performance of "IMPROV-The Musical" Thursday, July 29th at the Siena Hotel Ballroom at 7:00 PM. Tickets are $10 in advance as noted above, $15 at the door.
Although the performance is currently slated for a one-night-only showing, the company hopes to "take it on the road" to play for schools, hospitals, retirement communities and outlying venues that share the troupes respect and love of the theater.
