Ru Hernandez is an award-winning writer, editor, and blogger living in Phoenix. He is one of 500 working journalist members of the National Arts Journalism Program. He began his journalism career with New Times Weekly in Phoenix. In the years since he has worked covering the Border and Mexico for Gannett Newspapers out of Tucson, as an assistant city editor for the Naples Daily News (Scripps Howard) in Florida, and as a writer for the Phoenix Business Journal, as editor of Latino Perspectives magazine in Phoenix. He also has written for SPIN, Hispanic, VISTA, Latina, Native Peoples and Politico magazines. He currently serves as a Hispanic Market consultant for Concepts Consulting Group in Phoenix. Hernandez is a specialist in writing about Latino arts. He sits as a founder on the board of directors of Advocates for Latin@ Arts & Culture Consortium, Inc., a non-profit organization that this year created a Latino cultural center in Phoenix.
