Ohio State history professor and author Dr. Hasan Kwame Jeffries will discuss the origins of the Black Panther Party from 7:00- 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at the DuSable Museum of African American History, 740 East 56th Place, Chicago.
Dr. Jeffries specializes in 20th century African American history and the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements. His new book, "Bloody Lowndes: Civil Rights and Black Power in Alabama's Black Belt" tell the story of local people in 1966 Lowndes County, Alabama and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee organizers who ushered in the black power era by creating the Lowndes County Freedom Organization, an all-black political party that later became the Black Panther Party.
