The town of Bertram: Hungry Moose Pizzeria and Junkasaurus Wrecks

Hungry Moose in Bertram: Photo by Jessica Schneider

Bertram is not a town bursting with bed and breakfasts and fancy clubs. Much of its “downtown area” in fact, is rundown and equipped with abandoned buildings.

Bertram is a town one drives through to get to another town. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something for you to see.

The Hungry Moose Pizzeria is located right off Highway 29, (their exact address being 360 W State Highway 29). It is a small eatery that sells subs and sandwiches, shakes and sundaes, and offers a plain looking place to sit and play checkers.

For a short while, the owners were on hiatus, but they appear to be back, running strong. The Hungry Moose does offer some darn good subs (ask about the Moose special—or a name closely resembling that).

The restaurant does not have a web page, but the moose out front is impossible to miss. Also, if you wander the area a bit, you can stumble across the other big Bertram attraction: the Junkasaurus Wrecks.

According to RoadsideAmerica.com, it is: “a dinosaur constructed by the late Garrett Wilkinson of auto parts, including windshield wipers and spark plug teeth.”

A photo has been included below.

If you are driving through Bertram on your way to Lake Buchanan, or passing through to Llano, and feel the need for some ice cream, or a quick bite, The Hungry Moose would be your place.

And don’t forget to snag a shot of the Junkasaurus. The kids will think it is super cool.
