Maple in the County, a Top 100 Ontario Festival, showcases Prince Edward County’s growing reputation as a premium destination for gourmets. Those who think maple syrup festivals are for kids only will be delighted by the wide range of epicurean delights.
Maple foods and menus in the County
Last year, maple syrup found its way into almost everything in Prince Edward County, with delectable results. Black River Cheese Company served up award winning Maple Cheddar and Fifth Town Artisan Cheese offered fresh goat milk hot chocolate sprinkled with maple sugar.
Maple wine and beer in the County
Wineries, such Huff Estates and Norman Hardy, paired premium wines with maple-infused canapés. Barley Days Brewery created Sugar Shack Ale especially for Maple in the County. Maple-inspired menus at restaurants across the County included soups, salads, desserts and coffee. Guests at the Claramount Inn and Spa indulged in a maple anti-oxidant body wrap.
Sugar shacks and maple syrup production
Of course, traditional events like wagon rides to sugar shacks and pancake breakfasts were also on the menu. Visitors to JC Nyman farms chowed down on BBQ maple sausage while watching old-fashioned syrup production, which included a nostalgic roaring fire.
Prince Edward County is an easy two-and-a-half hour drive from Toronto and hosts a superb variety of accommodations.
