When the days get really hot and I start to consider moving to the mountains, or somewhere cooler, I always seem to find something that reminds me of how nice living in Tampa Bay can be. On Saturday morning, I packed everyone into the car and drove down to Clearwater Beach for a morning outing. Since we're only 3 miles away, we got there by 9:00am, beating the tourist crowd and packed parking lots. By noon, it was getting hot and the storm clouds were starting to roll in, so we headed over to the Palm Pavilion for lunch.
For many locals, the Palm Pavilion has been a beach-side tradition for a long time. Situated directly on the beach, it offers an easy break from the heat and some really good beach food. The menu isn't fancy, but it does offer a good variety of burgers, sandwiches, seafood, salads and more. They have a full bar where you can sit on a stool, watch your favortie sport on one of the flat-screen TV's and enjoy a fantasic view of the Gulf of Mexico. The prices are reasonable and the quality is pretty good for a beach bar and grill. My wife started coming here as a child with her grandmother and swears the hotdogs are the best in the world. Grab a table on the deck and enjoy the sounds of the surf while you eat. Just remember, fon't feed the seagulls or you'll be sorry.
