While hurricane Earl is moving away from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Tropical Storm Fiona, gaining strength and causing tropical storm watches to be posted. Nervous passengers booked on upcoming cruise vacations are asking for resources to see what, if any, impact hurricane activity will have on their sailing. Here are some good sources
- The Weather Channel meteorologist Kevin Roth tells us "Tropical storm warnings are in effect for the Turks and Caicos. Conditions there should gradually worsen during the day today with increasing wind and rain. The worst conditions are expected on those islands this evening and overnight with gradually improving conditions Wednesday"
- Cruise lines websites are keeping information up to date also with Royal Caribbean noting changes to itineraries on three of their ships via an online update.
- CruiseCritic.com maintains a roundup of all known cruise line itinerary changes and reveals business-as-normal for this hurricane season with some lines reversing itineraries, substituting ports or spending extra time at sea to keep guests out of harms way.
- The National Hurricane Center has live radar showing position and strength of current storms as well as their projected path
- Your Travel Agent will have current information as it pertains to your specific sailing at the present time. If you're sailing a month from now and just worried about what might happen, your travel agent can give you answers. If you sail in a few days, your travel agent has probably already contacted you to advise any itinerary changes
