In what appears very much like a move to meet the competition from all-inclusive cruise lines such as Crystal, Silversea, Seabourn (and others) at least half way, Oceania Cruises is adding two new beverage packages on its ships beginning in 2012.
The line already doles out free bottled water, soft drinks and specialty coffees, but starting next year, it will offer glasses of house wine and beer for $29.95 per passenger a day.
A second option, Open Bar, will cost $49.95 per guest, per day, and includes beer and premium house wine by the glass and most beverages on the bar menu. Guests can also order spirits and beer through room service. Premium house wine options are from an exclusive selection of featured red and white wines that change daily.
“Our new beverage packages offer guests a convenient and affordable way to further enjoy the finest cuisine at sea,” said Kunal S. Kamlani, the line’s president. “By paying one set price, guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer, spirits or even a nightcap at a terrific value.”
The new beverage package prices include gratuities and can be pre-booked online or through a reservations representative. They can also be purchased onboard at any time during the cruise, with prices prorated for the days remaining. Guests can upgrade packages during the sailing.
Having recently sailed on a 16-day voyage aboard Oceania’s Marina with a bar tab to prove it , I must say the deal’s a good one, which I’m sure most passengers will welcome with open arms.
