Search for Naples man who is person of interest in homicide of wife and five children

In a chilling account of homicide, a husband and father of five children is on the run and Florida authorities believe is in Haiti. Not officially named a suspect, but a person of interest, Mesac Dumas is wanted for questioning in the deaths of his wife, Guerline Damas, 32, and her children: Michzach, 9; Marven, 6; Maven, 5; Megan, 3; and infant Morgan, 11 months old. Authorities state that Mesac Damas, 33, has a history of domestic violence and abuse. Authorities have responded to incidents between the couple stemming over the past ten years.

The victims were found in their home at 864 Hampton Circle at approximately 6:30 p.m., yesterday after family members notified authorities that they couldn’t get in touch with Guerline. A missing person’s report had been filed; a sheriff entered the home on Saturday and made the grisly discovery. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has yet to release the cause of death of the victims. According to a report by the Naples Daily News, Mesac Damas’ father spoke with reporters and stated that his son was in Haiti.

Sheriff Kevin Rambosk of the Collier Sheriff’s Department stated that it was the most horrific and violent event the community had ever experienced. No one had seen the children or Guerline on Friday, she didn’t show up for work and the children didn’t attend school that day.

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office asks for the public’s help in finding Mesac Damas, even though it is believed that he is in Haiti. Anyone with information on Damas’ whereabouts is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 252-9300. Or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS.

The murder follows an incident in Tampa, Florida on September 8, 2009. SaQuanda Simon was shot dead while holding her 18month old baby. Her baby survived, and after an ongoing search for Cedrick Salter, the search ended after Salter turned himself in. He is currently in Orient Road jail without bond.
