The child’s name and age are being withheld, as is common with victims of sexual crimes. However, police have stated that she is under the age of 12. The young girl was sleeping in the bed of her Tampa home when 21 year old, Aaron Lamar Howard, used a key to the home and kidnapped the child at knifepoint. Holding the knife to her throat, he took her from her bed, and brought her outside to his truck. He put the child in the back seat and drove several blocks away from the family’s home. When she started to scream, he punched her in the face. He then raped the child in the backseat of his vehicle, according to police reports.
Police state that the family knew the man, but were uncertain how he received a key to the home. The report also states that after the man raped the girl, he dropped her off several blocks from her home and threatened her not to say anything about the kidnapping and rape. The girl went home and immediately told her aunt what had transpired.
Aaron Howard was arrested at his home, located at 1052 Cardonna Street in Tampa, Florida. Police state that upon his arrest, they also found marijuana and cocaine in his possession. Howard is currently in Orient Road Jail without bond. He faces the following charges:
- Sexual battery victim less than 12 years old
- Armed kidnapping harm or terrorize
- Possession of cocaine
- Possession of marijuana
