Convicted Craigslist rental scammer back in jail

A man who who pled guilty last year to scamming would-be-renters through Craigslist, has been arrested again on similar charges.

Paul Woodrow Bakovich, who previously pled guilty to charging deposits for rental properties he had no connection to, was arrested after a Kirkland woman he swindled reported him to police.

Bakovich made headlines last year when it was revealed that he was posting Craigslist ads for rental properties, then meeting with prospective renters, charging them a cash deposit, and disappearing. Bakovich pled guilty to three counts of second-degree theft and served three months in King County Jail.

But apparently the time in jail did nothing to discourage Bakovich, who promptly got back to his sleezy ways and resumed ripping off unsuspecting citizens.

This case is a reminder of the potential for crime that always exists through sites like Craigslist and a veritable PSA on why everyone shoud take the time out to google someone's name before they hand them a large sum of money.

Bakovich remains held in King County Jail, but has not been charged with a crime.
