U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officers in San Diego are mourning the loss of one their own, a 28-year-old woman who was pregnant and allegedly murdered by her estranged husband.
Memorial Services are Saturday for Maribel Arteaga at the Holy Trinity Church in El Cajon.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. last Thursday at her Santa Alicia avenue apartment in Chula Vista, the county medical examiner's office said.
Witnesses told police that Arteaga answered her door to find Jesus "Alex" Arteaga Garcia, 28, holding a long knife. He stabbed her in the chest before fleeing.
The victim was pregnant with her third child and their sons, ages 4 and 6, were home at the time of the attack.
Authorities believe the assailant has fled into Mexico.
A public viewing is set for Friday, December 18, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Humphrey’s Mortuary, 753 Broadway, Chula Vista. A rosary is set for 7 p.m.
Arteaga's friends and colleagues have set up savings accounts to provide support for her children.
