Oxycontin thief sought in San Diego

Police in San Diego are looking for help from the public in identifying a man who robbed a drug store of Oxycontin last week.

The man entered the Walgreens, 3222 University Ave., around 5:35 a.m., buying a bottle of cough medicine in the store's pharmacy area and then remaining in the store for about five minutes, San Diego police said.

He then returned to the pharmacy counter and handed over a note demanding the pills and reached into his waistband as if he had a gun, police said.

He was last seen walking eastbound toward the store's parking lot.

The drug bandit is described as a white or Latino man in his mid-40s, about 5-feet-10, heavy build and a "salt and pepper" goatee and beard.

He was wearing a gray baseball cap with a black logo on the right side, a black "Member's Only" style jacket with the initial "TRD" in red on the chest, blue jeans and white/black sneakers.

Anyone with information about this man can contact the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477. You can also visit the Crime Stoppers web site at sdcrimestoppers.com.

It is time to face the fact that OxyContin is legal heroin and interchangeable with heroin. This is why addicted people will steal--just like they do for heroin. The other problem is that they will put more of this on the street which will create more problems for our people.
