A convicted sex offender is scheduled for deportation from the Coachella Valley after his arrest by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the Indio Border Patrol Station,  U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said.

Jose Luis Ramirez, 58, was arrested without incident Wednesday morning near his home in Coachella in Riverside County, according to Victor L. Brabble, a CBP spokesman.

Agents were alerted via a tip that Ramirez, a Mexican citizen, was living in the Coachella Valley.

Ramirez was convicted in 1989 for two sex related felony crimes against children under 14.

He served two years of a six-year prison term before being release.

Ramirez was processed for removal as a convicted felony sexual offender who is illegally present in the country, Brabble said.

He is one of 21 sex offenders arrested in the El Centro Sector since Oct. 1, 2009, six of which were in the past week, Brabble said.

“When it comes to insuring our communities’ safety, figuratively speaking, we don’t just wait for criminals to fall in our laps,” said Jeffrey A. Calhoon, chief patrol agent of El Centro Sector. “In addition to our layered approach to preventing dangerous illegal aliens who are criminals from reaching our streets, our intelligence gathering provides results also.”
