Officer Rodney Johnson
Joslyn Johnson, the widow of Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson, has just filed a lawsuit against the City of Houston, the Houston Police Department and Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt. In 2006, her husband was killed by an illegal alien. Of course, Houston is one of several so-called ’sanctuary cities.’ On September 21, 2006, Houston Police Officer Rodney Johnson was shot and killed while making a routine traffic stop. The man that murdered him had been deported back to Mexico seven years earlier. However, due to the federal government’s refusal to defend the Mexican border, this human predator easily re-entered the United States, eventually killing Ofc. Johnson. On that fateful day, Ofc. Johnson stopped a commercial vehicle traveling 20 miles over the posted speed limit. The truck was driven by Mexican national Juan Leonardo Quintero. A co-worker and Quintero's two step-daughters were also in the vehicle. When Quintero was unable to provide any form of identification, Ofc. Johnson handcuffed him and placed him in the backseat of his patrol car. Once the officer was seated behind the wheel again, Quintero though handcuffed, removed the 9mm handgun concealed in his waistband and began firing at Johnson through the plastic shield separating the front and back seats. Johnson was shot in the head five times. He was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to a local hospital. 40 year old Officer Rodney Johnson was a 12 year veteran of the Houston Police Department and a U.S. Army veteran. While serving on the HPD, Ofc. Johnson received two Lifesaving Awards. He left behind his wife Joslyn (also a police officer) and five children. In 2006, Clara Rodriguez, who lived in the neighborhood where Johnson patrolled had this to say about the murdered officer: "He was just so very nice. He was not ever mean. It just breaks my heart. I feel so very bad for his wife. He got up and went to work this morning, and this is what happened. This is what happened to one of the people who protects us, who truly took care of us." Juan Leonardo Quintero had prior arrests in Houston. He is a convicted child molester and DWI offender, and was deported to Mexico by U.S. immigration officials in 1999. He had been working for a Houston area landscaping company and despite the DWI conviction, Quintero was driving a company vehicle at the time Ofc. Johnson stopped him. On May 20, 2008, a Houston jury sentenced Quintero to spend the rest of his life in prison. Making a statement before the court, Officer Johnson´s sister said: "Juan Quintero is not remorseful, and he is not insane. Losing a loved one the way that we did, and we have is enough to drive someone insane. None of us have displayed such disgraceful and despicable behavior towards him as he has shown this family." Shortly before the decision was read, news cameras inside the courtroom caught Quintero smiling and laughing with his defense attorney. Though the loss of Officer Rodney Johnson is a tremendous tragedy, not only to his family but to the community he served as well, it is one that could have been prevented. Ofc. Johnson was let down by both the city and country he so bravely served. The Congressional Research Service has listed Houston as a sanctuary city. As such, Houston police officers are not allowed to inquire into the immigration status of arrestees, nor can they report illegal aliens to federal immigration authorities. Houston has refused to sign up for the 287g program, which trains local police officers to identify and report illegal aliens. The measure has been incredibly effective and immediately alerts Immigration and Customs Enforcement to the criminal alien, and expedites the deportation process. The lawsuit states: "The Houston Police Department failed to discover Quintero-Perez's criminal alien status and failed to report him to federal immigration authorities despite detaining him or having him in custody on at least three separate occasions." Joslyn Johnson's attorney, Ben Dominguez said: "I think we all believe her husband would be alive if the policy had been different.” Houston’s policy of offering sanctuary to illegal aliens has become a very costly one for that city’s police department, which has recently seen two more of their officers shot by illegal aliens. In March 2009, an illegal alien from El Salvador shot Officer Rick Salter during a drug interdiction. Fortunately, Ofc. Salter recovered from his wounds. Unfortunately, in June 2009, another illegal alien killed Officer Henry Canales, who was performing an undercover sting operation in southwest Houston. How many more Americans will have to die before our elected representatives remember their oaths of office to defend this nation? Evidently, murdered police officers are the price both the Republican and Democratic parties are willing to pay for cheap labor and Latino votes.

All of Americans politicians, lawyers, judges, business people and every one else who continues to enable illegal immigration by allowing SANCTUARY CITIES,are outright in violation of their duties to honor existing U.S.Immigration law and need to be prosecuted and jailed. Sancutuary cities are absolutely against existing immigration law, Title 8 Section 1325 of the U.S. immigration law code, it is against the law to house, shelter, or in anyway "FACILITATE THE STAY" of a foreign nationals illegally in the United States. Sanctuary laws are "FACILITATING THE STAY" of illegal aliens in the U.S. All of this is criminal.
It is time that victim's of illegal aliens start to be heard. In this country the only way to get anyone's attention is to take their money. I hope Houston and every other city realizes that not enforcing laws creates anarchy. People that break the law need to realize the consequences period.
Maybe someone in Maryland will do the same thing and we can start getting rid of these leeches...O'Malley, you're a "one and done"...2010 cant come fast enough.
everyone and anyone who supports illegal aliens should be tried for treason and jailed. It's such a terrible tragedy. How can a city tell it's employees not to follow federal law yet expect everyone else to follow local law? the very least put the city council and mayor in prison
Houston is doing a bang up job, isn't it? But it isn't just Houston. Denver Colorado, has also had police officers killed by illegal aliens from mainly Mexico, and so has Los Angeles, and New York, and Arizona, and ..... WE HAVE NOTHING BUT TRAITOROUS BAS-ARDS RUNNNING THIS NATION, WHO DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THE CITIZENS, POLICE, OR EVEN OUR LAWS. Like Malcom says, anyone who keeps voting in politicians that enable illegal immigration should be thrown in jail along with those politicians. AMericans must be crazy allowing this crap.

This isn't rocket-science, and it will only motivate hordes of Mexicans (and others, including scum like this Quintero character) to run for the border at break-neck speed to sneak in so they can be included in any immigration reform programs.
The time is now to build an impenetrable wall and fence from San Diego to the Gulf of Mexico, make the e-Verify system mandatory for employers, double / triple the size of the Border Patrol, station armed National Guard troops at all known smuggling routes on the border, conduct more Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, severely restrict those allowed in here, and go after the visa over-stayers (those who visit from Mexico and other countries with legitimate documents and visas and conveniently stay here without returning home), and deport ALL illegal aliens. No more sanctuary cities!
What is wrong with people who want to protect illegal aliens? It's getting to the point that illegals have more rights than anyone else. Our system is seriously broken and it's time we elect officials that have common sense and support Americans and legal immigrants the way they deserve to be treated. All illegals need to go back NOW and our borders secured NOW.

Joe, you are very ignorant. When the first Europeans came to North America, there were no immigration laws in place. Since you can't violate a law that doesn't exist, those Europeans were NOT illegal aliens. On the other hand, the United States does have immigration laws in place today, so any foreigner who comes to this country in violation of these immigration law is an illegal alien.
