Oklahoma pharmacist kills armed robber, saves the lives of his staff

Taurus Judge

A little before 6:00 p.m., last Tuesday, two armed men rushed into the Reliable Discount Pharmacy in Oklahoma City, and demanded money and drugs. The store had been robbed two years earlier, a robbery in which the store’s employees had been forced into a back room and severely beaten.

However, this time the store had a security system with doors armed with magnetic locks, which could only be opened from the inside. The masked-men apparently knew this and waited for someone to exit, at which time they pushed a board in front of the closing door and rushed into the pharmacy.

Once inside, they demanded all of the cash and narcotics, two female technicians ran into the back room. But the pharmacist, Jerome Ersland who wears a large back brace, and is still recovering from recent surgery, could not run. But he could defend himself.

The robbers began shooting at him, with one bullet grazing him on the arm, he said he heard another round whiz past his ear.

Ersland recalled: "All of a sudden, they started shooting. They were attempting to kill me, but they didn’t know I had a gun. They said, ‘You’re gonna die.’ That’s when one of them shot at me, and that’s when he got my hand.”

Ersland grabbed the semi-automatic Kel-Tec .380 in his pocket.

"And that’s when I started defending myself,” he said. "The first shot got him in the head, and that slowed him down so I could get my other gun.”

Ersland also kept a much larger pistol in a nearby drawer, which he was able to retrieve, a Taurus Judge revolver. At that point, the second robber took off. However, the other robber was now getting up off of the floor, despite the head wound.

Ersland emptied his clip into the chest of the wounded robber, who turned out to be 16-year-old Antwun Parker.

"I went after the other guy, but he was real fast and I’m crippled,” said Ersland. Once outside, he saw a third black male sitting in a car with what appeared to be a shotgun.

Ersland said: "I pulled out my ‘Judge’ and pointed it right between his eyes and he floored it.”

Police arrested the man in the car which turned out to be stolen, after he crashed it a few blocks away. The other robber is still at large, he is described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and weighing 175 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a red shirt and dark pants.

Ersland went back into the store and found his two technicians safe but shaken.

Ersland said: "I asked if the girls were all right, and they were in the back crying. I was glad to know they were alive. We were lucky and I’m glad I defended us, because I feel that a person has a right to defend themselves at their home or at their work. People deserve to be safe and not be afraid of people that want to take money when they don’t work for it.”

As if the attempted robbery was not enough, an angry black mob gathered outside the pharmacy later that night, shouting and accusing Ersland of being a racist because he had killed the teenaged thug, who was black.

"I just regret anybody would get killed. But if I wouldn’t have been here, there would have been three people killed — the other pharmacist and the two techs.”

"I was able to return fire and protect the girls’ lives. God was helping me.”

Here are a few facts about armed Americans:

-Armed citizens shoot and kill at least twice as many criminals as the police do every year in this country (1,527 to 606).

-A 1996 University of Chicago study concluded that states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their murder rates by 8.5 percent, rapes by 5 percent, aggravated assaults by 7 percent, and robbery by 3 percent.

-According to the National Safety Council, with guns being used 2.5 million times a year in self defense against criminals, firearms are actually used more than 80 times more often to protect lives, rather than to take lives.

-A 1979 Justice Department study concluded that of more than 32,000 attempted rapes, 32 percent were actually committed. But when a woman was armed with a gun or knife, only 3 percent of the attempted rapes were actually committed.

-Another Justice Department study found that 57 percent of felons agreed that “criminals are more worried about meeting an armed victim than they are about running the police.”

So just so I get this right. Someone kid gets mixed up with gangbangers or common thugs, attends a robbery with offense force used by the thug and the poor white people are racist because they returned fire and eliminated the threat? Is that race card getting dog-eared yet?

TruKnowledge: There isn't going to be any "black vs. white" Judgment Day. There simply aren't enough racists (of any skin color) such as yourself to overpower government forces or the unorganized militia (read as law-abiding gun owners).

Most Americans have learned how to generally get along with each other, regardless of their skin color. Maybe it's time you found a way to do so as well.

    D. Gibson, thank you for bringing this case to a national forum. We know such are often not covered in MSM outlets. An American protecting others, even while he is crippled and wounded, is cause for words of praise. Note also that theres was no time for calling 911 much less waiting for police to arrive. Stay armed and learn how to use your weapons and you may save not just your own life one day, but the lives of others!

Provided the circumstances of this incident were as reported, the pharmacist was certainly justified in using deadly force. I note that the handicapped victim refrained from shooting at the get-a-way vehicle, even though the driver appeared armed with a long-gun. I'm no lawyer, but that would seem to indicate restraint on the pharmacist's part.

I am never shocked to see the worthless black race sticking up for their thieves and murderers. If they had killed the white people in the store it wouldn't have been a big deal to them, but since they were treated like the worthless animals that they are the black race will now cry like the worthless species that we know they are.

Mr. Ersland did what he had to do and he saved not only his own life but the lives of others as well.

It's so sad. The kid loved to draw pictures. The kid didn't mean to have a gun. He thought those bullets were fake. He didn't mean to demand money and point a gun at the store employees. The robber was only joking. What's wrong with everybody? Can't you see that this boy was shot for armed robbery? He could have shot everybody in the pharmacy! His family didn't raise him right. If this was a black storeowner shooting a black criminal, then them blacks in the hood would be calling for gun control. But, because it was a Caucasian shooting a black criminal, the black community reacts like it was Jesus Christ getting nailed. But what do you expect from a race that celebrates illiteracy like it was an honor, or getting shot like it was a merit badge (as long as it was done by another black, that is), or being incarcerated like it was passing a rite of manhood?

The pharmacist did the right thing. The criminals deserved their fate. The racist comments are likely from anti-gunners trying to sabotage gun owners. Race does not define criminality - behavior does! There are white, black yellow, and brown criminals and criminal gangs!

The man sure didn't look crippled in the video. If the kid that was shot in the head didn't have a weapon, and he appeared to be getting up to attack, an extra shot or two would have been sufficient. Five shots seems to be a bit excessive. That's not to say the kids didn't cause this themselves. For all the racist white people (I am white), grow the hell up. I guarantee you don't act that way or say those things around those people.

The mistake that he made was to retrieve a second gun after he shot this poor misguided youth. No doubt if things had happened as these poor misguided youths had preferred someone else indeed may have died. Then it would be a totally different scenario. Poor pharmacy employees dead at hands of teen robbers(protected by courts)Let this be a lesson. If you're going to carry and you're going to defend yourself or others CARRY ENOUGH GUN.

Thank God this pharmacist was able to protect himself and others. These 2 black young men, like most, had no guidance and were headed down the wrong path fast. If this one death didn't happen it most likely would have led to many innocent deaths in the future. Lets not prosecute the victims. This pharmacist didn't ask for these 2 armed robbers to come into his store. He was working and making an HONEST living. Something that these 2 boys have never even heard of. Yea the kid sure was a threat. Laying unconscious on the ground with a bullet in his head. He put the gun down, turned his back on the unconscious boy laying on the ground, face up with an an obvious bullet in his head. The "hero" retrieved another gun, shot the kid 5 more times to make sure he was dead. Why not go back and pump him full of lead for good measure.

Some of you are saying, he shouldn't have gotten the other gun and shot him again because the "threat" was over. People can get hit in the head, still get up and fire another round, obviously he was still alive after being hit, so the threat wasn't over until the people being threatened felt safe from that persons danger, which happened to be after the boy stopped moving completely. And he's racist just because the scum who happened to be robbing him is black? I'm a black man myself and I completely support the pharmacist. And to be honest, ignorant black people need to stop using the race card so much and disgracing our race. Look up the top 50 most dangerous cities in the United States, and MOST of them, the population during the census was at least 70% or more. No wonder their are so many racists, stop blaming white people for putting 'us' in jail, when it's 'our' fault. The pharmacist is a hero and I commend him on thinking quickly and being able to defend himself and others. Anybody trying to pull the race card or saying that the threat was over, get out of your close minded world, you never know what the kid who got shot could have done, he already wanted to shoot the pharmacist, and then he gets shot in the head, if he’s still able to move, he’s probably going to want to shoot the pharmacist even more, the threat wasn’t over until the boy wasn’t moving anymore. If this pharmacist gets in any type of trouble, I will for sure know this country is going downhill and feel sad for my grandchildren.

And in my one comment, I meant to say, in most of the United States' most dangerous cities, the census showed that around 70% or more were usually black. So we're blaming whites and 'racist' for the fact that we are ruining our own lives. If you seriously think like that. You are truly ignorant and a disgrace to the black race.
