On Sunday afternoon, Boynton Beach police arrested Leticia Flores, 28, for the hit-and-run killing of 10-year-old Darness Brown. The girl’s 13-year-old sister, Darneisha Ellis, was also injured when Flores allegedly hit their scooter.
Boynton Beach police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater said the girls were riding their scooter on Southwest Ninth Avenue at Southwest Third Street when Flores hit them with her Honda SUV.
In what had to be a sickening scene, Darneisha told the police that as her sister was dying next to her, Flores jumped out of her vehicle and screamed at the two girls for being on the street, she then fled the scene.
The girl’s story was supported by an eyewitness. Jessica Thomas, 24, told police she ran outside when she heard the crash. The affidavit claims: "Once outside, she observed the driver of the vehicle standing outside staring at the injured pedestrian. Thomas then stated that the driver (Flores) got into her vehicle and fled the scene."
Police caught up to Flores as she pulled into a convenience store parking lot. She told the arresting officers that she left the accident scene because there were other people who had come to the girls’ aid. She also said that she ran because she has no drivers license.
A good Samaritan performed CPR on the little girl until paramedics arrived. However, having sustained severe internal damage, she died shortly after arriving at Delray Medical Center.
Flores was arraigned on Tuesday, with Judge Ted S. Booras setting bail at $1 million. Booras cited not only the serious nature of the crime, but Flores’ immigration status as the reasons behind the large bail amount.
The girls' uncle, Lamont Davis told reporters outside the courtroom: "My niece told me... the lady who hit her got out of the car and came over to them and told them they shouldn't have been in the road. ... And then gets back in the car without trying to see what's wrong with them at all."
Darness' aunt, Regina Horne, told the Palm Beach Post about her niece, saying: "She loved her mother to death. She was her mother's little shadow."

Mexicans are nortorious for their hatred of black people, so it's not surprising that Leticia Flores thought that it was 'no big deal' to run over a couple of black kids.
I live about 10 miles from where this happened. The Hispanic and Haitian illegals are right at home here in Florida. Most ignore the rule of law because with the power of attorney, they can get a hispanic tax office employee to give them a license plate or a corrupt Drivers license examiner in Delray, Florida to give them a license for 1200 dollars. Every day the police arrest 5 or 6 illegal drivers with no insurance, no license, and an altered tag. On Weekends it's more like 10 to 12. Most are not worried about getting deported. That needs to be changed.
Another killing of an American child by an illegal alien, this time a woman. This crime was totally prventable. The State of Florida has blood on its hands.
The US congress should be prosecuted right along side this disgusting piece of organic waste on charges of treason against the Constitution Of The United States OF America, a sovereign nation countless Americans have died to protect. To me the only point is what so many posters have expressed, the elected representatives in anywhere U.S.A. that continue to allow this crap, need to be prosecuted and jailed and anyone who supports illegal immigration, thrown head long out of office.
More Americans have been killed accidentally or murdered by lawbreaking illegal aliens than have died in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. If Obama, Bush Jr., Clinton and Bush Sr. had enforced the laws on the books we would have zero crimes committed by illegal aliens. Just as guilty are the Senators and Representatives(both parties). Prominent are Pelosi, McCain, Guttierez, Reid and Kennedy, but many, many others as well. They have blood on their hands. Vote them all out. Illegal aliens are dishonest and without integrity and never will be worthy of our valuable citizenship purchased with the blood of Americans. According to the police report, the illegal alien driver was in the wrong lane.
She was turning left and she was on the left side of the street she was turning onto. She was completely negligent.
That's why we need to get rid of illegal aliens. They ignore our laws and don't learn how to drive and don't take tests to get licenses.
If that woman had been prevented from getting a job at McDonalds because they used e-verify, then she would have been forced to go back to Guatemala and that little girl would be alive today.
