Jim Jones tweets while being busted; mainstream media all a-Twitter

Talk about instant news: Rapper Jim Jones gave a boost to the Twitter community yesterday when he tweeted while being processed for ignoring a buck-twenty traffic ticket.

"It was a punk ass warrant from 2005 for 120 dollars," he wrote from his "Twitterberry".

"Make sure you pay old tickets."

And follow ... y'know... the rest of the laws, too.

Just ask Skull Gang leader Juelz Santana, who was pulled over recently -- also in Teaneck. Or Outkast's Andre "3000" Benjamin, who was clocked on a Georgia interstate last week doing 109 in a 65 mph zone.

Teaneck police reported they stopped Jones' black 2007 Bentley because it had only one license plate. A check turned up an outstanding warrant for ducking the four-year-old summons in Paterson.

"The funny part was watching them have to count all the money in my pocket lol," Jones tweeted. "They ain’t trippin they said just procedure.

"I must say they were very cool."

Maybe from now on, whenever someone's taken downtown, they'll be entitled to one tweet.

Jones, 32, who lives in Newark, even tweeted on his way out the precinct door, just before 2 a.m. (Check out this account on: sixshot.com) The  moves should help boost the "Pop Champagne" rapper's Twitter following, which is alreadyy headed toward 25,000 -- and maybe even get some click time from those oblivious to the network.

At the same time, it could leave competitors p-d off for not thinking of it first.

Jones already had legal trouble stemming from a fistfight he had with a rival recording artist's friend inside a Louis Vuitton store on East 57th Street in Manhattan. He pleaded not guilty in February, and later called the legal procedure "an expensive inconvenience."

Last month, he was accused of being at a Detroit nightclub where rapper Christian "Trick Trick" Mathis reportedly had been shot.

Jones said it was all a bogus story concocted and posted on -- where else? -- Twitter.

Just got back from dealing with a failure to appear. Six months old, 25 bucks. No twit.

Where is the "one phone call" tradition codified, if anywhere? Only wondering.
