Sheriff remains dedicated to Haleigh Cummings case and believes Misty holds key to disappearance

Haleigh Cummings

Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy is disappointed the tips surrounding the disappearance of 5-year-old Haleigh Cummings have decreased.  Hardy said he and his staff remain dedicated to the case.

Hardy maintains that Misty Croslin Cummings holds the key to the investigation because she was the last person to see Haleigh on Feb. 9.

During her interviews with authorities, Misty has been inconsistent with her account of what occurred the night Haleigh went missing.

Haleigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, was at work when the girl went disappeared, but Misty claims she was at home sleeping at the time.  Misty says she got up to use the bathroom and saw the kitchen light on.  When she went to investigate, she saw the back door propped open with a brick and discovered Haleigh was gone.

According to First Coast News, Hardy said, “some the brightest minds in law enforcement have spoken to Misty and have not been able to get a clear understanding of what happened Feb. 9.”

Kim Picazio, attorney for Haleigh’s mother, Crystal Sheffield told First Coast News she and her staff have spoken to eyewitnesses who saw Misty partying away from the home the night Haleigh disappeared.

Haleigh has blond hair and brown eyes and is 3 feet tall.  Please call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at 386-329-0800 if you have any information regarding Haleigh Cummings.

Even the dullest of minds can conclude that she was out running around. Why don't they use their best computer equipment and run her voice responses by it to see if she's consistently telling them lies. Employers are using it for job interviews, use it and decipher truth from lies.
She's lying through her teeth out of fear of Ronald beating her to a pulp.
I'm sure he has some regrets about marrying this girl, but that keeps her within arm's length. She ran around on Ronald and she's trying to save her own hide.

Misty probably partied many, many times while the Cat was away....as soon as Ronald started the nightshift.

This Sheriff Jeff Hardy is lame and should be removed from office or resign. He is a monumental embarrassment to the county. If he believes that Misty ‘holds the key’ to Haleigh’s disappearance then why doesn’t he do his damn job by arresting and charging her? Otherwise, he needs to stop saying that. He has also commented that ‘the best minds’ have questioned Misty and still don’t have a clear understanding of what happened the night that Haleigh went missing. What the heck? You mean to tell me that the so-called best minds cannot outwit a 17-year-old girl? If that’s the best Florida Law Enforcement can do, maybe you should start thinking about another career. Real investigations require a little more education and experience than handing out a traffic ticket or serving a subpoena for divorce court. Hardy also commented that the family feud is detracting from the investigation – how is that? The family feud doesn’t impact an investigation of this nature in any way, shape, or form. Hardy makes all of these comments in an attempt to hide the fact that he is completely inept. If I lived in that county I would be petitioning for his immediate resignation.

I agree, I think Misty either snuck out or had someone over. Given that, it is possible that whoever did this, may have drugged Misty to get to Haleigh. Maybe Misty was drinking a soda & put it down & went to the bathroom...someone may have slipped something in her drink to knock her out. That would explain her confusion...even now she may not realize WHY she can't remember. She may not be an angel, but I don't think Misty, or anyone in the family, hurt that child knowingly. JMO

Putnam county has no business trying to investigate any crime need to stick with speeding tickets. After a child was kidnapped and kept by father(used loosely) they did nothing to help the mother of the child and help keep child from mother by alerting father when mother was in the area. I dont trust anyone on the police force or the court system in putnam county. The child in question was finally able to return to mother and after the years of abuse and lies the child live with has created an adult with little morals and believes lying is ok. Well needless to say the father has nomore contact with the child and leaves all the heartache of trying to help this child become a better person up to mother. she works with the child on a daily bases but the damage is done and PUTNAM COUNTY POLICE AND COURT SYSTEM SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN AND ALL CASES SHOULD BE WORK BY THE FBI AND COURT CASES SHOULD NEVER BE HEARD IN THE COUNTY THEY SHOULD MOVE THEM TO ANOTHER FAR AWAY!!!!!!
