An 11-year-old girl missing for 18 years was found safe in Calif. on Wednesday. Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped in 1991 from a school bus stop in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Her stepfather reported at the time that a vehicle with two people drove up to the girl and abducted her right in front of him.
Sex offender Phillip Craig Garrido, 58, and his wife Nancy Garrido, 55, have been arrested and are being held on $1 million bail. Phillip Garrido is being held on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, rape by force, suspicion of kidnapping, sexual penetration, and conspiracy. While his wife is also being held on suspicion of conspiracy and kidnapping.
On Thursday, authorities held a press conference describing how Jaycee and her two children, fathered by Garrido, were held captive in a hidden backyard. To see the press conference, click here; to see the Garrido yard, click here.

By many estimates only a fraction of the guilty are ever even charged! What about the hundreds of thousands that have never been charged much less convicted? Maybe we should take a long hard look at the system that lets these scum fall though the cracks!
The reason these people get released is because everyone in the system is corrupt and immoral... i wouldnt be surprised if most of them werent pedophiles themselves... If our president was smart he would re-evaluate everyone right down to local probate judges... but who do you get to do that job? my faith in humanity is being seriously tested.. also i agree with you nick. punishment in this country is too soft.. if people were actually afraid of the consequences maybe that would stop some of this bull...

Punishment that really hurts drives crime from the human heart...from Proverbs in the Holy Bible. Write to your state legislators and insist they convene a commission to research state legal penalties available to judges. Then ask the penalties for crimes to be publicized so that voters can either initiate a measure at the next state election OR insist that state legislators pass replacement penalties during their next legislative session. Somehow, get stiffer penalties into state statutes and then update federal penalties to fit the crimes that are committed. Big job, but it can be done if we, the people, decide to put our money where our mouths are. Thank you.
He got 50 years in prison which indicated the seriousness of his offense. And he was released very early? Something seriously wrong with our system? Why would anyone bring race into this? And these ignorant buffoons responding make me ashamed to be white. Though in response to Ron this does happen in the black community as well, however since the white community takes up such a larger percentage of the USA's population you hear about it with white people much more often. Also white kidnappers / serial killers etc. are much more publicized.
