French mother confesses to killing 8 of her newborn babies over the past 20 years (video)
A nurses-aide with two grown daughters has admitted to suffocating eight of her newborn babies and hiding their corpses in the garden and the garage of her Villers-au-Tertre, France home.
Dominique Cottrez, 46, said she had such a bad experience with her first pregnancy that she never wanted to see a physician again, and refused to use contraceptives.
She secretly delivered each of the babies on her own, strangled them, and then placed them in plastic bags and buried them.
The Daily Mail reports that the babies were killed between 1988 and 2007. Although the report indicates Cottrez was cognizant of the fact she was pregnant each time, her husband, Pierre-Marie, 47, claims he knew nothing about the pregnancies.
French prosecutor Eric Vaillant said “The sky is falling on his head… he was absolutely not aware his wife was pregnant.”
Two of the babies’ corpses were found when the new owners of Cottrez’s former home were digging in the garden to build a duck pond. Police were immediately called and six more bodies were found in Cottrez’s new abode just a half-a-mile away.
Neighbors said Cottrez is a “lovely woman” who took care of her father until he died recently. They also noted that she’s a “stout woman… so it may be she was able to conceal her pregnancies.”
Cottrez has been charged with eight counts of willfully killing a child under the age of 15 and could face life behind bars. She will now undergo psychological evaluation to determine her degree of criminal responsibility, according to the Mail.
