Jada Justice
Clarence Justice, father of 2-year-old Jada Justice, is asking a judge to give him custody of his 2 sons who are now in the custody of Melissa Swiontek, Jada’s mother.
Jada was killed by Engelica Castillo and her boyfriend Tim Tkachik, when her mother, Melissa Swiontek left Jada in their care while she took a trip out of town.
Castillo, who is also Jada’s cousin, is charged with the little girl’s murder and for neglect of a dependent. According to Tkachik, Castillo hit Jada in the head repeatedly, and shortly thereafter she was unable to breath and died. The couple then tried to dispose of the body.
Tkachik has also been charged with murder. Both may face the death penalty for killing Jada.
Despite Tkachik’s account of what happened to the girl, and an autopsy revealing Jada suffered skull fractures, Castillo claims she is innocent of the charges.
Justice said he and his wife can provide a safe home for his 2 sons, ages 1 and 6. Although he was never married to Swiontek, he said he took care of Jada and her brothers and spent time with them on alternate weekends.
“I just feel my boys are safer in my arms than with anybody else. I’m working steady, they have a stay-at-home stepmom to look after them.”
An emergency hearing on the matter is scheduled for Wednesday in Porter County Juvenile Court.
