Caylee Anthony remembered at park vigil

Caylee Anthony

On Tuesday evening, a small group gathered at a vigil to remember the slain 2-year-old, Caylee Anthony.

The vigil took place at Jay Blanchard Park in Orlando, Fla. and was organized by Scotti Simpson, the founder of a Facebook group created in Caylee’s honor.

Richard Grund, the father of Jesse Grund who was once engaged to Caylee’s mother, Casey Anthony, spoke at the vigil.  He said it was important to hold “a memorial to remember Caylee to mark this day to remember her as a little girl, to remember her joy and laughter.”

Grund told the dozens of gatherers that the focus needs to be put back on Caylee and off the legal issues.

The group sang an emotional rendition of, “You are my sunshine,” a song Caylee was heard singing in a video released by the family earlier in the investigation. To see the video, click here.

Maloney Rousseau came to the vigil with her 2-year-old granddaughter and said, “When I saw those big brown eyes, I was just hooked. I think it’s terrible what happened to her.”

Casey is charged with the first-degree murder of Caylee, whose remains were found Dec. 2008 in a wooded area near the Anthony family home.

The vigil ended with butterflies being released in memory of all missing and murdered children.  CNN reported that “One butterfly flew and landed on a flower arrangement provided in memory of Caylee…”

This memorial was such a nice idea for all who are aware of this case. Yes, I agree with Mr. Richard Grund when he said the focus should be put back on Caylee instead of the legal issues! It seems that many people in society tend to forget horrific crime over time, but I'm not one of those people. To this day, I think of JonBenet Ramsey quite often, and my heart still feels that same stab of pain as it did right after she was killed. It breaks my heart for any child to be abused or murdered, but these two cases stand out in thatJonBenet was murdered in her home, but not by a family member(supposedly), and in Caylee's case, she was not reported missing for 31 days!!!!! I feel this is the main reason most of the world has already convicted Casey in their hearts and minds.
