Anthony Sowell, 50, appeared in court on Thursday to be arraigned for assaults on three women and the death of 11 others.
The suspected Cleveland serial killer pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was remanded back to jail.

Rick Bombik, the assistant prosecutor in the case, said nothing in Sowell’s background indicates any sort of mental illness. Bombik said, “Quite frankly, he’s a psychopath.”
Sowell has been on suicide watch at the request of his public defender, Kathleen DeMetz, according to CNN. A psychiatric evaluation of Sowell has been ordered.
