Annie Le remembered in hometown California funeral (photos, video)

On Saturday, slain Yale graduate student Annie Le was remembered by family in friends in El Dorado, Calif.

Annie, 24, went missing Sept. 8 and was found murdered several days later. She was obtaining an advanced degree in pharmacology and studying enzymes as part of important cancer, diabetes, and muscular dystrophy research.

Monsignor James Kidder, the pastor of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where Annie’s funeral was held told the Hartford Courant,

She went into medicine because she wanted to help people as best she could. While she was a great achiever, she really showed that the great achievement she had was really to be more competent and passionate about caring for the sick… research that she felt hopefully will bring cures.”

Raymond Clark, a lab technician who worked with Annie in the Yale lab was charged with her murder. Clark was not a Yale student, but was responsible for tending to, and cleaning up after, the lab animals. He is currently in custody and his next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 6.

On Oct. 12, Yale is planning an on campus memorial service for Annie. The school is also establishing a scholarship in her memory.
