A clinical professor of law at DePaul University is the newest attorney to join the high-powered legal team defending Casey Anthony.

Andrea Lyon has handled over 130 murder cases and more than 30 potential capital cases in her career.

On Thursday, Lyon said she may be the lead counsel in the Anthony case, but she considers herself an equal member of an “excellent team.”

Lyon believes the prosecution is seeking the death penalty for “strategic reasons.”

She said, “You will hear about those strategic reasons in motions that I will be filing, challenging their right to even ask for the death penalty in these circumstances.  I believe Florida law simply doesn’t allow asking for the death penalty in these circumstances.”

She does not believe the trial will begin in Oct., as tentatively scheduled because more time is needed to prepare for the case.

Lyon has also written a book that is due to be released next year entitled “Angel of Death Row: My Life as a Death Penalty Defense Lawyer.”  The book recounts her story as the first woman in the country to serve as a lead attorney on a death penalty case.

Casey Anthony is charged with the first-degree murder of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee.
