‘America’s Most Wanted’ celebrates milestone, features appearance by President Obama (video)
On Saturday evening, the Fox hit TV show ‘America’s Most Wanted’ will celebrate its 1,000th episode. In addition, President Barack Obama makes a guest appearance on tonight's episode.
John Walsh has been hosting the successful series for over two decades and obtained the position after tragedy struck his life.
On July 27, 1981, Walsh’s six-year-old son, Adam, was abducted from the Hollywood Mall in Hollywood, Fla. after heading to the toy department in Sears as his mother, Revé, shopped for lamps. Revé and Adam were only apart for about 7 minutes when he went missing.
According to reports released in 1996, a teenaged security guard had asked four boys to leave the store—one of which is believed to have been Adam.
Just over two weeks after the incident, Adam’s severed head was discovered in a drainage canal about 120 miles from his home.
Walsh became an advocate for victims’ rights and due to his efforts, was approached to host ‘AMW.’
Walsh believed that serial killer Ottis Toole was responsible for Adam’s death after investigators found a sandal and a pair of green shorts similar to what the boy was wearing when he disappeared at Toole’s home. In 2008, police announced the case was closed and that Toole, who died in prison in 1996 of liver failure, confessed to Adam’s murder.
In tonight’s episode, the president sits down with Walsh and they speak about the Obama administration’s anti-crime initiatives and the huge impact the show has made over the years.
