Actor Peter Fonda defends friend Roman Polanski saying he didn't kill anyone

Peter Fonda arrives at the premiere of "Fast & Furious" in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 12, 2009. (AP)

Actor Peter Fonda, 69, believes authorities have bigger fish to fry than director Roman Polanski.

Fonda was in Zurich, Switzerland for a film festival at which Polanski was to obtain an award. Authorities intercepted and arrested the famed director when he arrived in Zurich to attend the event.

According to the Associated Press, Fonda told a radio station, “We should have been celebrating the arrest of Osama bin Laden and not the arrest of Polanski.”

Fonda went on to say Polanski “is not responsible for killing anyone” and commented on how the victim, Samantha Geimer, has publicly forgiven Polanski and has asked the case be dismissed.

Polanski was convicted of raping 13-year-old Geimer during a photo shoot, but fled the country in 1978 prior to sentencing. He is now fighting extradition from Switzerland to the U.S.

So I see how this goes-- When the victim is of the opinion "please dont put your penis in me mr. polanski", her opinion is meaningless. Both to him and to all his friends. but when her opinion is "let him go" her opinion is brimming over with meaning, should trump the laws of the land in fact, all the sudden her opinion is now the final word. when she didn't want to be raped her opinion about her own body being entered was nothing! i see how these creeps do. refusing, you won't be heard, we won't listen to your opinion. say it's all ok?-- and your words will be repeated and hung onto like frikkin holy writ. screw peter fonda. and screw all the rest of these clowns with no compassion or concern for children, for young women. i hope weinstein didn't fund michael moore's new picture b/c i wanta see it!! if he did i'm waiting for the library copy.

The man raped a child. If he wasn't a celebrity, he would have been jailed before he could say "Chinatown". Pay the price Mr. Polanski.

I wonder if Fonda would feel the same if it were his daughter that was raped by Polanski? or if it happened to Fonda himself?

Peter Fonda is an idiot. Put him in jail with Roman Polanski. Most actors live in such a dream world that when REALITY strikes they are usually on the opposite side of law-abiding Americans.

I can't believe people are defending Polanski. No Fonda, he didn't kill anyone, but are you saying it's ok to rape a child? Polanski would have been convicted and put in jail 30 yrs ago if he had not fled the country. ANYONE, celeb or not, who rapes and sodomizes a child should be locked up with all the other criminals!

fonda is whacked just like his sis, from a family of dysfunctionals. fond was interviewed years ago and he made a point of he felt he was raped, b.s. crap correlation I ever heard of. good actor but a very strange human being. yeah, it's true polanski didn't really kill anyone unless if it was fonda's daughter, then he'll murder his white behind.

So by Mr. Fonda's standards, I guess if Jaycee Dugard doesn't want to press charges against her kidnapper and racist (because of Stokholm syndrome) we should just let him go to because we have better things to do. Hollywood true colors appearing, and no amount of bleach will be able to erase the fact that they have absolutely NO morals.

One part of the crime is the rape of the 13 year old girl which if the state chooses to let that go is one thing but Polanski fled the US for 30 years so he was a fugitive, he must at least face this crime of fleeing the country if nothing else.

ARE YOU SERIOUS FONDA??? WOULD IT BE OKAY WITH YOU IF IT WERE YOUR DAUGHTER HE DID THIS TO AT THE AGE OF 13?? HOW ABOUT A GRANDCHILD??? THIS IS AN ILLEGAL CRIME, HE FLED BECAUSE HE KNEW HE DID IT AND THAT IS OKAY??I AM SO TIRED OF HOLLYWOOD MAKING EXCUSES FOR THIS CRAP. WE CANNOT CHANGE THE LAWS FOR POLANSKY, OUR CHILDREN HAVE RIGHTS AND WE NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THIS COUNTRY REMAINS SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN. IT IS NOT OKAY TO RAPE A CHILD BY DRUGGING THEM BECAUSE OF WHO YOU ARE AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE. ALL THE HOLLYWOOD ACTORS/ACTRESSES THAT ARE OKAY WITH IT, THEN LINE YOUR OWN CHILDREN UP WITH HIM AND LET HIM DO TO THEM WHAT HE DID TO SOMEONE ELSE'S CHILD AND LETS SEE WHAT YOU THINK THEN.

Yes, he didn't kill anyone but he is a fugitive of justice, plain and simple. These 100+ signatories from hollywood and a few politicians obviously do not represent the majority.

Uh - no - you're right - he didn't kill anybody. that's probably why his sentence won't be 25 years to life. he'll probably get the adequate sentence that a 43 year old man who raped a 13 year old girl will get. a little more than shoplifting, a little less than murder.

What the . . . ? I have come to learn that actors and many other people in the film industry are very very dumb. is that mean? i meant to say stupid, moronic, lack a clear ability to analyze information with reason and logic. they may know their "craft", they may know how to pretend to be smart, funny and interesting. but THEY'RE not in real life.

honestly it is shocking how stupid this person is. shocking. shocking he was successful at all in life . . . oh wait . . . he had nepotism and good looks on his side. he should just be thankful for his breaks in life and leave it at that. had he been ugly and not a "fonda" he'd be saying "would you like fries with that" rather than this rediculousness.

Peter Fonda is a druggie loser.

Polanski is a pedophile who as a Polish citizen should be chemically castrated.

I am BOYCOTTING the films/shows of all the Polanski supporters. I will never purchase a Diane Von Furstenberg piece of clothing.

I just read the lurid details from the grand jury testimony of the young girl back in 1977. It reveals the shocking details of Polanski's actions. After he got the 13 year old girl inebriated with a combination of champagne and half a quaalude, he proceeded to perform oral sex on the girl against her will and after she begged him to stop he vaginally and anally penetrated her, also against her will. The girl was obviously terrified and afraid of Polanski and repeated requested him to stop and to take her home. These asinine defenders of Polanski should read the transcript before they open there ignorant mouths. Moreover, does anyone doubt that the entertainment industry's reaction would be totally different if a less compelling figure was the perpetrator. It just goes to show how out-of-touch and elitist these people truly are.

I wonder if any of these Hollywood leftists have a 13-year-old daughter or granddaughter they'd hand over to be raped by a 43-year-old?

Sickening and sick people. I don't want to pay for any more movies to prop up their socialism and and atheism and militant homosexuality and anti-American idiocy.
