DFW area halfway house escapee caught in "the Sunshine State"

Billy Twayne Gibson, a convicted sex offender who escaped on August 28 from the Wayback Halfway House in DFW and cut off a 24-hour tracking device he was supposed to wear, has been arrested after authorities spotted him hundreds of miles away, in Miami Springs, Florida.

Gibson, 33, was apprehended this morning at a Miami Springs hotel, where he probably checked into, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), who also say that his capture was a result of a tip that was received. That tip must have included information about a stolen vehicle that was found in Navarro County.

Gibson was at large ever since last Saturday morning, until now.

Yesterday, DPS did make an announcement regarding the $5,000 reward for details leading to Gibson's apprehension. Gibson was known as one of the ten most wanted fugitives of Texas, accordng to the DPS.

The issued arrest warrant mentioned charges of not obeying civil commitment obligations, which is considered a felony in the third degree. In addition, he might be charged with motor vehicle theft.

When Gibson's rap sheet was reviewed, it contained charges and/or accusations of aggravated sexual assault of a child, unlawful carrying of a weapon, compelling prostitution by force or threat, and aggravated robbery.

Gibson is now being detained at the Miami/Dade County Sheriff’s Department and will be extradited back to Texas to face new charges.
