Will County Sheriff's detectives have uncovered what appears to be a dog fighting operation in Joliet.
Last night, detectives searched a home at 713 Logan Street and found a mother pit bill and five pups. All but one of the pups was in good condition, according to a sheriff's department press release. They also found large amounts of steroids and needles used in the illegal dog fighting business.
Police were tipped to the house after a county employee noticed a dead pit bull and five live dogs tied up in the yard of the home recently.
Neighbors tell police no one lives in the house, though they say they do see pickup trucks coming and going at odd hours of the night.
Police don't think the dogs were actually fought at the house, but the presence of a treadmill in the garage leads them to believe dogs were trained to fight there.
There are no arrests so far, but at least the dogs are safe. The investigation continues into who is responsible for the operation.

This is so sad. I hope that one day we will see an end to this cruelty. I am the owner of a Shepard-Pit and a Brindle Pit-Boxer mix and they are the most loving and goofy dogs. Unfortunately they all get a bad rap due to the ignorance of those that choose to exploit them. Great article!
