A Chicago man has been charged in the death of 10-year-old boy who was crushed between two vehicles yesterday morning.
Martin Candia, 30, of the 1500 block of West Fargo is charged with:
- Reckless Homicide
- Aggravated DUI
- Driving under the influence
- Drive under the influence with BAC above .08
- Disobeying a red light
- Driving on a suspended license
- Operating a motor vehicle without insurance
- Failure to keep in lanes
- Failure to reduce speed
- Transportation or possession of alcoholic liquor in a motor vehicle
Police say Candia was driving drunk on the 6900 block of North Ashland at 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning when his car crashed into a parked car. That car was shoved forward and crushed a child who was walking between the hit vehicle and another vehicle.
The victim, Calvin Santos, died a shot time later. He, his father and little sister were on their way to a relatives home when the accident happened.
Candia is in due in bond court tomorrow.
