90-year sentence for savage sexual assault

It's a 90-year prison sentence for the man who savagely attacked a 56-year-old woman in Rowen Park on Chicago's Southeast side last year.

Jeffery Slowinski, 29, of Whiting, Indiana is  6 feet tall, 265 pounds, according to his Illinois Department of Corrections inmate's page.

He grabbed the woman while she walked in the park on 116th and Avenue O early one morning in March, 2008.

He shattered the woman's cheekbone with his punches, then dragged the victim to a wooded area near the park where he sexually assaulted her.

He then strangled her and left her for dead.

But, she didn't die and was able to help police catch and charge Slowinski and take him off the streets, hopefully, forever.

Earlier this year, Slowinski was convicted in two separate cases of attempted criminal sexual assault, unlawful vehicular invasion and criminal damage to property, according to a press release from the Cook County State's Attorney's office. In those cases he targeted people leaving an Indiana casino.

State’s Attorney Linda Alvarez says Assistant State’s Attorneys Annette Milleville and Erica Dillon of the Sex Crimes Division are to thank for working so hard to ensure a stiff penalty for Slowinsk.
