There's some closure for the family of Morgan State University graduate, 25 year old Sintia Mesa who was tortured, strangled and left nude in the trunk of her car on January 26 2007.
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced 33 year old Johnny Butler to two consecutive life sentences plus ten years for first degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and a third degree sex offense after he was convicted in October for her murder. His codefendant, 37 year old Calvin Wright pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Sintia, a Northwestern High School graduate and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority was abducted by the two men after she left the CoCo Brown Beauty Salon in Randallstown. The two hoped she would lead them to a self storage locker where she and her boyfriend, 31 year old Jermarl A. Jones of Hyattsville, often kept drug cash.
When Sintia didn't show up for a meeting at her job, her sister reported her missing to police. Police suspected foul play after her cell phone was found in a trash bin. Three days after she was last seen, a caller called police after seeing her silver Toyota Solara in the parking lot of the 7200 block of Brook Crest Way in northwest Baltimore. When police searched inside, her nude body was found in the trunk.
Jermarl had been indicted the previous year for drug charges and was currently awaiting trial at the time of her murder.
No arrests were made in the case for over two years but detective Gregory Boris of the Baltimore City Police Department made this statement:
"We were able to bring a large group of these guys down at one time which led to witnesses, which ultimately led to DNA evidence which was conclusively the nail in the coffin."
Both Calvin and Johnny were already locked up on unrelated drug charges when they were indicted for her murder.
