Two-time Super Bowl champion, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, now has a private investigator on his legal defense team. Roethlisberger is accused of sexually assaulting a 20-year old college student on March 5th, though no charges have been filed.
Roethlisberger’s attorney, Ed Garland, told the Associated Press that hiring a private investigator in a case such as this, even though no charges have been filed, is standard procedure. Garland represented Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis in 2000 against murdered charges. Lewis was found guilty obstruction of justice after the murder charges were dropped.
Meanwhile, the Milledgeville police and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation continue to investigate the allegations against Roethlisberger, but neither has said whether the Milledgeville police have talked with Roethlisberger as Milledgeville Police Chief Woodrow Blue said his department would do last week. The two agencies only say that the investigation continues.
However, photos have surfaced online showing a smiling Roethlisberger next to Sgt. Jerry Blash, the Milledgeville police officer who wrote the initial incident report involving the alleged sexual assault. Chief Blue said the photos were taken hours before the allegations against Roethlisberger were made.
