In spite of financial woes (“flat is the new up”) book buyers, sellers and exhibitors were upbeat at this year’s Book Expo, held in the Jacob K. Javits Center in Manhattan this past week-end. Book Expo is where it all comes together; it’s the premier event for the North American publishing industry.
Granted, there was talk of “surviving today’s changing industry,” and a few grim mentions of “the challenging economy.”
But who can resist the lure of meeting with fellow authors, fans and industry pros? Certainly not Donald Bain. Along with his wife Renee, he’s written thirty-three titles in the Murder She Wrote series, a publishing phenomenon. His latest title, Madison Avenue Shoot, takes place in New York City. The irrepressible Jessica Fletcher visits her nephew Grady in the Big Apple and agrees to appear in a television commercial. Murder and mayhem follow from this intriguing premise. A peek into the advertising industry, a captivating heroine and an action-packed plot-- all set against the backdrop of one of the most exciting cities in the world. What’s not to like? This is another winner for Donald Bain.
