VVS Laxman or Vangipurappu Venkata Sai Laxman is an Indian middle order batsman, who is currently a part of the Test team only.
He also plays for the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League. He had captained the side in the first edition of the IPL but played as a non-captain in the second.
VVS has a batting style that is very reminiscent of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Some of Laxman’s best innings have come against the mighty Australian bowling attacks.
These include the 167 that he had scored against them at Sydney and the mammoth score of 281 in the Kolkata Test match of 2001. He has scored another double century in the five day format, and that has also been against Australia.
Earlier Laxman used to open the innings for India, but lack of runs at the top made him reconsider his decision. He firmly established himself at the number six position and after the retirement of Sourav Ganguly, he was promoted to the number five.
He has played in 109 Tests and scored almost 7000 runs. Ian Chappell has called VVS as Very Very Special!
