Creighton basketball news: Stinnett has stitches removed, Witter granted release

Creighton junior-to-be P’Allen Stinnett is doing just fine and had his stitches removed yesterday from his surgery a week ago. The Bluejays star guard went under the knife to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee while also removing an ingenial hernia discovered unexpectedly last week.

As the rest of his teammates begin their grueling offseason workouts in the weight room, Stinnett has started the rehab process with Creighton Basketball’s head trainer Ben McNair on campus.

“I’m taking it one day at a time,” Stinnett said in response to the rehab process. “I’ve got a lot of work to do.”

The Bluejays are trying to get past their heart-breaking season-ending defeat at the Qwest Center in Omaha March 23rd. They lost in the second round of the NIT postseason tournament by two to the Kentucky Wildcats, 65-63.

Other offseason news includes junior reserve guard Cavel Witter. Witter asked and was granted a release from his scholarship by head coach Dana Altman. Witter had a roller coaster junior season and with the emergence of freshman Antoine Young as the season progressed he saw his minutes dwindle.

When asked what his options were for next season, Witter responded via text message saying, “I’ve got ten division II offers and two division I.” His two Division I options include New Hampshire and Maryland Eastern Shore. Witter came to Creighton from Trinity Valley Community College in the suburbs of Dallas. For him to transfer to another Division I school he would be forced to sit out a year due to NCAA regulations.
