Walt Disney Pictures has certainly had its hands full these past few years, what with Pixar Animation Studios match-ups such as Wall-E and Ratatouille, upcoming productions such as Pirates of the Carribean 4, Frankenweenie, Jailhouse Rock, National Treasure 3, Step Up 3-D, Further Adventures in Babysitting, The Princess and the Pauper, and productions in the works such as The Princess and the Frog, G-Force, Toy Story 3, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Tron 2.0, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo, and A Christmas Carol.
Next week, Disney's work with Pixar will once again hit theatres at full force when its film Up is released on Friday, May 29th. Directed by Peter Docter and Bob Peterson, and starring the voices of Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer, Jordan Nagai, Bob Peterson, David Kaye, and Delroy Lindo, the film is expected to topple its opening weekend competition.
And it is no wonder, really.
As the very first Pixar film to be made for the Disney Digital 3-D format, the first 3-D film to ever open the Cannes Film Festival, and the first Pixar film to be rated PG since double Oscar-winning The Incredibles back in 2004, the film boasts a great deal of pre-release intrigue to speak of.
Not to mention, the competition is scant. Opening against the likes of Drag Me To Hell and Okuribito (as opposed to the big competition between Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Terminator Salvation show-down this weekend), Up will have no trouble making a big showing at the box-office this weekend.
Will it be as successful as Disney's previous box office giants like Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story 2, Cars, and Wall-E? We shall see.
In the meantime, what do you think? Is this a movie you will be seeing? Do you think it looks as promising as the prior match-ups between Disney and Pixar? Why or why not? Comment below and let us know your thoughts!

Based on the trailers so far, and the reviews of the movie (Variety, New York Times), it should be one of the successful movies of Disney-Pixar family. And also it is in 3-D, which means that even with smaller audience it will generate more money (as 3-D movie tickets are priced higher). Im goint to watch the movie with my friends for sure.
There has never been a Pixar movie I didn't see in the theaters. "Up!" will be no exception.
Check yes I'll see it! I love Pixar films, but I've never been "chomping at the bit" to go see one the day it's released. The story line from what I've read is pretty interesting. The voice acting looks awesome from the previews.
